Grama Panchayats are the local self-governments at the village level in India. They implement various central and state government schemes to promote rural development, infrastructure, healthcare, education, and livelihoods.


Common Schemes under Grama Panchayats

  1. MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act)
    • Provides 100 days of guaranteed wage employment per year.
    • Focus on unskilled manual work in rural areas.
  2. PMAY-G (Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin)
    • Housing scheme for rural poor.
    • Assistance for building pucca houses with basic amenities.
  3. Swachh Bharat Mission – Gramin
    • Focus on sanitation and elimination of open defecation.
    • Funding for building individual household toilets.
  4. National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP)
    • Ensures safe and sufficient drinking water in rural areas.
  5. Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)
    • Rural road connectivity scheme.
  6. Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana – NRLM
    • Promotes self-employment through Self Help Groups (SHGs).
